About

Professor Radji Bryson-Barrett

Founder. Black belt. Competitor. Coach on the mat daily.

A competitor who teaches

Radji Bryson-Barrett is the founder and head instructor of Radji Barrett Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fords, New Jersey. He received his black belt in 2015 and has been teaching and competing ever since.

Before opening the academy in Fords, Radji owned and operated Jaguar Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Edison, NJ, starting in 2013. He built his reputation as a patient, technical coach who works with everyone from day-one beginners to seasoned competitors.

Leading the curriculum

Radji leads the curriculum and technical direction of the academy. He's on the mat daily — leading classes, rolling with students, and setting the standard for the academy's technique. His approach is concepts-first: understand the "why" behind a technique, not just the move.

Community, not personality

RBJJ is a community, not a personality brand. Radji has built a team of capable coaches who teach within his system — so you get consistent, high-quality instruction every class, not just when the head instructor happens to be there.

The academy

This is who we are

Philosophy

Serious jiu-jitsu. Relaxed people.

That's not a marketing line — it's how the academy actually operates. The training is technically serious. The people are relaxed.

Beginners feel welcome. Competitors get real rounds. Nobody has to be someone they're not. Coaches train with everyone. No hierarchy, no tough-guy culture.
