FAQ

Common questions

Do I need experience to start?
No. Most of our members started as complete beginners. Our fundamentals classes are built for day-one students.
Am I too old to start?
No. Our adult members range from their 20s into their 50s and beyond. Jiu-jitsu relies on leverage and timing, not strength or speed.
Do I need to be in shape first?
No. Jiu-jitsu gets you in shape; you don't need to be in shape to start. Waiting to get fit first is the most common reason people never start.
What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi?
Gi is the traditional kimono — grips, lapels, and a slower, more technical game. No-Gi uses rash guards and shorts — faster pace, wrestling-based, and modern submissions. Many members train both.
What happens during my first class?
You arrive 10–15 minutes early, meet the coach, get a tour, and join a beginner-friendly class. You'll drill technique at your pace. No sparring on day one unless you want to.
How often should beginners train?
Two to three times per week is the sweet spot for progress without burnout. You can start with once a week and build up.
How much does adult membership cost?
$175 per month for unlimited classes — BJJ (Gi and No-Gi), wrestling, and striking all included.
What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in — a t-shirt and shorts or leggings. No gi needed for your free trial.
